SS-31 (also known as Elamipretide, Bendavia, or MTP-131) is a synthetic 4-amino acid tetrapeptide with the sequence D-Arg-2',6'-dimethylTyr-Lys-Phe-NH₂ and a molecular weight of approximately 640 Da. It is a mitochondria-penetrating peptide designed to selectively target and accumulate in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
Mechanism of action
Binds selectively to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing cristae architecture, optimizing electron transport chain function (particularly cytochrome c activity), reducing ROS production, and enhancing ATP synthesis to protect against mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress.
Lyophilized: −20°C, stable 24 months. Post-reconstitution: 4°C, use within 30 days. Protect from light.
Add 1–2 mL bacteriostatic water slowly along the vial wall. Gently swirl — do not shake. Allow 5–10 min for complete dissolution.
